Keeping on the Sunnyside of Life

Chocolate Play Dough Activity

February 24, 2013

Every time my little guy plays with this chocolate play dough, the whole house smells delicious! I’m not sure how this would work with a younger child since the scent is so enticing, but he is 4 and old enough to understand that it’s not to eat. This is actually the second time I have made this with my little guy. The first time we used cookie cutters and cupcake wrappers and the fun lasted for a little while. This time, I let him do his own thing, and guess what, it makes great dirt! And logs. He was so excited to start playing with it first thing this morning.

Add the ingredients to a bowl…
Stir in hot water…
Roll Out and Knead
Play!

Chocolate Play Dough

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain white flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 T vegetable oil
  • 1 T cream of tartar
  • 1 cup of hot water

Instructions

  1. Combine all of the dry ingredients in a bowl
  2. Microwave 1 cup of water for 1 min and 30 seconds
  3. Add tablespoon of oil to boiling water
  4. Stir in the hot water/oil mixture (adult only) and mix until combined
  5. Allow to cool slightly and turn onto parchment lined table or counter. Knead it just like bread dough until it loses all stickiness and becomes smooth and stretchy. No residue should come off on your fingers.

Notes

If it is still sticky add a little more flour, if too dry and crumbly add more water, a tablespoon at a time.
